Tchif: Signs of Life
Out of Africa gallery presents Signs of Life, an exhibition of recent work by leading contemporary Benin artist, Tchif from September 10 to November 2, 2014.
A largely experimental artist, Tchif works with a variety of media and techniques including computer-generated graphics and felt markers. However, his principal interest lies in surface textures and the materiality of his medium. With his hands, he seamlessly incorporates bits of fabric, rope and clay, revealing a tactile, almost sensual relationship with matter heightened by a luxuriant palette of blues, ochres, reds and browns- the process becoming just as significant as the material itself.
