Taiwo Ajai-Lycett Turns 75

On Wednesday February 3, internationally acclaimed Nigerian actress, Taiwo Ajai-Lycett will mark her 75th birthday with a book launch at the MUSON Centre, Lagos from 10am.

Ajai-Lycett’s extensive stage and television career includes appearances at some of the world’s most famous theatres including the Royal Opera House, Convent Garden; The Hampstead Theatre Club; The Palace Theatre, Westcliffe; The Mercury Theatre, Colchester; and the Bristol Old Vic. Other notable appearances include Sidney Poitier’s A Warm December, Some Mothers Do Av’Em; Crown Court and Comedy Play House.

Since returning to Nigeria in 1976, Taiwo Ajai-Lycett has played leading roles in several TV and stage productions amongst which are Song of a Goat by JP Clark, Wole Soyinka’s Death and the King’s Horseman, and the Lion and the Jewel; Laolu Ogunmiyi’s Winds Against my Soul; and Jab Adu’s The Young Ones.

Ajai-Lycett is a recipient of several professional and national honours, including an OON (Officer of the Order of the Niger) in 2006 by Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo. She is also a Fellow of the Society of Nigerian Theatre Artists (SONTA).

Presently, Ajai-Lycett runs Taiwo Ajai Lycett Arts Academy, Talhouse Private Schools and Talhouse Worldwide, organizations she founded to promote the arts, while training and nurturing young artists.
