Richardson Ovbiebo: Yet Another Place

From November 28 to December 12, 2015, Omenka Gallery will present Yet Another Day, an exhibition of recent work by leading contemporary artist Richardson Ovbiebo.

Among the works is the series Street Code, where for the first time, Ovbiebo has integrated text cut from perspex, the words highlighting phrases principally referencing Somolu in Lagos, where he lives and works. In addition to this new visual language through which he revisits the social dynamics that drive his practice, he continues to demonstrate a commitment to metal by repurposing everyday objects. Collectively, these works consider how language and mundane objects define people and the spaces they occupy. Further, they present a record of today’s communities and interactions therein.
