Remembering Bisi Silva
Renowned curator Bisi Silva has died. She passed on at 3:45 pm on Tuesday, February 12, 2019, in Lagos after a long illness. Silva is celebrated for her vision and hard work in inspiring a generation of artists, collectors, students and art enthusiasts across the African continent. She was the founder and artistic director of the Centre for Contemporary Art Lagos (CCA Lagos), established to increase the visibility and appreciation of contemporary art from Africa through research, education and exhibitions.
Following her first degree in foreign languages in Paris, she earned a Masters in visual arts(curating and commissioning of contemporary art) at the Royal College of Art in London.
Bisi Silva curated several major art fairs and exhibitions in Nigeria, Africa and Europe including ‘Johannesburg Art Fair Chance Encounters’, ‘Second Thessaloniki Biennale of Contemporary Art’, ‘Democrazy’, ‘Playing with Chance’ and ‘Moments of Beauty.’
