Jerry Buhari: Framed Images of Time and Memories
From December 12 to 20, 2017, Thought Pyramid Art Center, Abuja will present Framed Images of Time and Memories, an exhibition of drawings, watercolours and mixed media by leading contemporary Nigerian artist Jerry Buhari.
Jerry Buhari was born 1959 in Kaduna, Nigeria and holds a Masters in Fine Art from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria where he continues to teach.
Buhari works in a variety of media including oils, acrylics, watercolours, and installations. His abstract paintings and mixed media canvases interrogate the human relationship with the environment, dialogues of cultures, and the challenges of political leadership in modern African nations. Betraying his strong links to the famous Zaria School, Buhari’s technique is based on complete abstraction- a process that gives free reign to the flow of colours on his canvas sometimes tilting at an angle so they spill down and waste away. The colours create their own associations as they flow down the canvas without the artist’s intervention. According to Buhari, this deliberate act is a metaphor for the wasteful destruction of the environment by man.
Jerry Buhari is a member of the Society of Nigerian Artists and is widely exhibited in Nigeria and abroad.
