Founded in 2007, Arthouse Contemporary is an international auction house that specialises in modern and contemporary art from West Africa. With auctions held three times a year in Lagos, Arthouse Contemporary aims to create awareness of the scope of contemporary art in the region, encourage international recognition towards its talented artists, and strengthen the economy of its art market.

As contemporary African art moves to become one of the fastest growing global art markets, this edition  will feature works from the modern period and cutting-edge contemporary art from the region’s most celebrated artists such as Ben Enwonwu, Bruce Onobrakpeya, Ben Osawe, Chuks Anyanwu, Abayomi Barber, Ablade Glover, Rufus Ogundele, Kolade Oshinowo, Uzo Egonu, Emmenual Ekefrey and Gani Odutokun. Leading contemporary artists in the sale include Peju Alatise, Alimi Adewale, Lemi Ghariokwu, Dominique Zinkpe, Ola-Dele Kuku, Chidi Kwubiri, Duke Asidere, Rom Isichei, Chike Obeagu, Ben Osaghae and Kainebi Osahenye, among others.

Top lots of the evening are Ben Enwonwu’s Ogolo, a 1992 watercolour on paper, in addition to two other Ben Enwonwu watercolours featured, and a contemporary mixed media work by Malian artist Abdoulaye Konaté.

This sale features seven charity lots that have been generously donated to support the second edition of the Lagos Biennial, which will take place October 26 to November 30, 2019.

A preview will hold at the Kia Showroom on Saturday, May 25 (11am-6 pm), with viewings on Sunday, May 26 (12pm-6pm) and Monday, May 27 (10am-1pm). The auction will be led by noted auctioneer John Dabney. Arthouse Contemporary is proudly supported by Kia Showroom, Le Connaisseur, 7UP, Chocolat Royal and The Guardian.
