ARISE Fashion Week Stages a Comeback
Due to popular demand, ARISE Fashion Week (AFW) will return from March 30 to April 2, 2018 at the Lagos Continental Hotel (formerly known as the Intercontinental Hotel).
Birthed 11 years ago, ARISE a synonym for “Africa Rising” is largely credited with placing Africa’s fashion industry firmly on the global fashion map. Indeed, through ARISE, many African designers have been showcased on the world’s most prestigious runways at such venues as London’s famous Royal Albert Hall, Washington DC’s Kennedy Center, and in New York, where ARISE made a legendary triple appearance during the iconic New York Fashion Week.
Though AFW, global fashion icons and leading models such as Naomi Campbell, Alek Wek, Liya Kedebe, Oluchi Orlandi, Grace Bol, Georgie Badiel, Millen Magese have promoted the best of Africa. The event has also seen internationally acclaimed designers such as Gavin Rajah, Oswald Boateng, David Tlale, LaQuan Smith, Lanre Da Silva, DEOLA, Jewel by Lisa, Ituen Basi, and Odion Mimonet fly the African flag.
Still the most prominent fashion show in Africa, AFW creates memorable fashion moments through authenticity, innovation and style, whilst bringing together the global fashion elite including buyers, financiers, retailers and the media.
This year, the runway event in Lagos will feature 45 designers from 14 countries; South Africa, Botswana, Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Senegal, France, Morocco, the United Kingdom, the United States, the Caribbean and Nigeria. The best of these will be selected to show their work at the New York Fashion Week in September.
Speaking about the event, co-producer Ruth Osime, reveals what to expect from this edition. “We are excited to bring world class fashion back to Lagos in the real sense of it. The bar will definitely be raised once more with strong collaborations, innovation, and creativity.”
