Afropolis.Org Celebrates Chinua Achebe @90 with 90 Nigerian Creatives from 30 Cities
From 15-16 November 2020, Afropolis.org, an initiative of the CREATIVE CULTURE SUPPORT FOUNDATION led by Qudus Onikeku will celebrate literary icon Chinua Achebe @90. The event is a 2-day gathering to remember, reincarnate and reinvigorate the grandeur of Achebe’s eloquence, his interest in extracting old concerns from the new, as well as his lifelong commitment to the questions of human dignity.
With a welcome message from the son of Chinua Achebe, Dr Chidi Achebe, this gathering will feature other high-level luminary speakers from different parts of the world, visual and literary art exhibitions from renowned artists from Nigerians at home and abroad, monologues from Achebe’s writings, performance poetry, films, dance, related podcasts and music.
A highlight is a special online screening of the movie adaptation of Achebe’s ‘Things Fall Apart’, slated for 2 – 8pm, 14 November 2020 WAT.
Incorporated into the programme are seven panel discussions and a special session featuring significant topical issues such as; ‘Before Things Fell Apart: An Exploration of Colonial Archives’; ‘Home and Exile: Localising the diaspora; ‘The Trouble with Nigeria: Art and the Society’; and ‘Girls at War: Trauma and Collective Consciousness’. Speakers include Obi Asika, Victor Ehikhamenor, Moyo Okediji, Olu Oguibe, Uche Iroha, Ed Keazor, Olasupo Shasore, Amanda Okoye, Okey Ndibe, Rahima Gambo, Qudus Onikeku, Chris Abani, Otobong Nkanga, Bukola Oyebode, Emmanuel Iduma and Emeka Okereke.
