Affordable Art Auction 2017

Leading auction house Arthouse Contemporary Limited will hold the 2nd edition of the Affordable Art Auction on February 11, 2017, at the Kia Showroom.
The sale features 123 lots by emerging and established artists across Africa. Highlights include; Bruce Onobrakpeya, Three Elephant Masquerades, edition 1 of 70, 2011, serigraph on paper, 67 x 50 cm, estimated between ₦ 900,000-1,000,000; Rom Isichei, Peaceful Thoughts, 2010, oil on board, 42 x 52 cm, with presales estimates ₦ 900,000-1,000,000; Kolade Oshinowo, Olori, 2013, charcoal and coffee on paper, 59.5 x 44.5 cm, estimated between ₦ 850,000-1,000,000; Ben Osaghae, Child Labour 2, 2011, acrylic and oil on canvas, 91.5 x 91.5 cm, with estimates ₦ 800,000-1,000,000; George Osodi, Oil Slick, 2013, C-print on aluminium dibond, 80 x 120 cm, estimated ₦ 800,000-1,000,000; and Diseye Tantua, Cool Down, No Vex, 2016, acrylic on canvas, 122 x 152.5 cm, with presales estimates ₦ 800,000-1,000,000.

Unlike its inaugural edition, this year’s sale goes beyond the N500,000 to a N1,000,000 limit, a testament to a steady growth of the African art market. Founder Kavita Chellaram reiterates this fact saying,”Pieces bought at our very first auction, back in 2008, have increased up to 10-fold in value today.”

This year’s sale also includes four charity lots in support of the Arthouse Foundation, a non-profit organisation that aims to encourage the creative development of contemporary art in Nigeria.

Arthouse will be hosting a preview ART NIGHT OUT at 6pm on Thursday, February 9, at the Kia Showroom, which will also include a special musical performance by Nigerian-Canadian singer-songwriter Falana
