Samuel Olowomeye: Àbámò, 2017

The man with his fingers to his agape mouth expresses a feeling of “kaiiiiiiii…! Haaaaa…! Had I known!” – an expression of regret to a reality that just dawned on him. What the Yorùbás will refer to as “àbámò“. That feeling we get when our instinct told us to do something in a particular way but a friend convinced us to do it another way and unfortunately someone did that same thing the way we had initially thought it should be done, and took the glory in one’s stead.

Àbámò, 2017 Pastel and charcoal on paper, 76.2 x 53.34 cm
