March 25, 2017, Terra Kulture will present an afternoon of tributes for Buchi Emecheta by novelist Ike Oguine in conjunction with the Committee for Relevant Art (CORA).

Ms Emecheta, a pioneering female Nigerian novelist who had lived in the UK since 1960, died late January 2017. With Second Class Citizen, published far back as 1976, this trail blazing writer had broached a subject that would later be generally described as diaspora literature.

Among the panel of speakers at the tribute are Sefi Atta, Chika Unigwe, Molara Wood, Sarah Ladipo Manyika and Margaret Busby, who was Buchi’s publisher.

Emecheta’s son Sylvester Onwordi, who published a moving tribute to her in the New statesman would take part in the event.

Jahman Anikulapo, the programme chairman of the Committee for Relevant Art, said “The working subject of the conversation is that, even though she’s no more, her work continues in the works of several Nigerian female writers who have taken her concerns even farther – Chimamanda, Adimora Ezeigbo, Sefi Atta, Sarah Ladipo Manyika, Promise Okekwe, Molara.
